Mobile Phones

Fedy23

Hi all,

so I have been living in Antalya since 1 year and 2 months. What a year this has been!?!

Anyway, my UK mobile phone IMEI numbers (2 slots) have been blocked. I bought a new mobile phone here in Turkiye from pttavm website from a reputable seller with good ratings. Unfortunately, after 3 months this new mobile phone IMEI number has also been blocked. I am using a Turkish SIM card by the way.

I have complained several times to pttavm and wrote to the seller too but I have not received any reply.  What can I do next?

Clearly the mobile phone sold to me it has been imported in Turkiye but I wasn't aware. Now, I am without a phone and I must purchase a new one! And they are so expensive!! I can't do instalments due to being a foreigner.

ðŸÇ¹

Any help greatly appreciated

Yes, such a problem exists and it is very sad. The saddest thing is that I do not understand for what purpose this is done.

Do you know that after the new year, your phone's IMEI should be unlocked?

@kzein

I don't believe so. My old phone from the UK isn't working anymore. And right now I cannot afford a new one.

I am not totally sure why they do this. Could it be down to the fact that they want you to buy Turkish made products?

Turkey is also getting more and more expensive (minimum wage higher than in Hungary)

Local help or contacts are useful we used eigher manco of our complex or real estate agent for phones, TV, ....

Having said that if on a very limited budget things might be difficult (we have had enough cash to buy a new phone). Honestly if you do not have enough cash for a phone, you have an issue going forward. (local taxes/insurance/health insurance, Aidat, ...)

You should be enjoying life (which costs), if not, perhaps better to leave.

Don't trust me. Just turn it on. It should work. At the beginning of each year, the ban on using EMEI is reset.

@kzein

Yes, that's correct. At the end of the 12 months the IMEI numbers get unblocked.

I am still dealing with this bad situation. I sent back the phone to the seller who is now refusing to refund me. Who can I contact for help?

@Fedy23

What is your monthly budget? Turkey has now a minimum salary exceeding Hungary. me and my wife just would it write it off and avoid stress on smaller things.

Our concerns are on rules in Turkey (in general (renting or buying a property), what neighbours we will have, health, transferring money from the Netherlands to Turkey, how to deal with pensions and taxes (also inheritance).

Just assuming you worked in the UK. (I moved around (especially for work), I am not a millionaire, but using tax systems and treaties can be beneficial (me and my wife (who is not working) received back EUR 100 K.

Rather than looking at a 200 EUR/GBP phone, example for the UK, after 5 years leaving the UK I sent a letter to HMRC, by the way I am entitled to GBP 5 K (no problem, they transferred very quickly)

I realise this is off topic, but why do you not focus on the big tickets (and worries (and possible solutions))?

If your budget is very very small and you have no knowledge on rules (and how to use them), please do not come to Turkey.

Sorry to be so negative, but that is how I feel.

I suppose you have internet and chrome (better to follow the Turkish websites as well)

@Fedy23

Support you can get from your real estate agent (if he is good) or from the manco of a complex (everybody wants to have additional income).

Our experiences are very positive so far.

You need a good wife, good support from providers, good neighbours, choose your providers and make them love you (more than a year and you have no useful contacts (??).

For mobile phones no issues whatsoever, my wife and me have internet, mobile phones, netflix, audible. Overall not exceeding EUR 50 pm. Comfort is important.

Really wondering why you have issues.

@Fedy23

write it off, why spending energy? My wife is a bit like you and going back to shop for even TRY 50.

Just enjoy life where you can and get support (easy , even my hairdresser will know people)

Living in Antalya (I hate Antalya btw) why do you not have contacts?? Why do you live there (wife, food, comfort, ...)?
