Can I have two jobs at the same time in the Netherlands?

Salome123

I am a non-EU international student in the Netherlands, holding a GVVA, doing my part-time internship there. I want to have a second part-time job to accommodate myself. I do not have any courses from my university, just indicated in my application that this internship is necessary to complete my study programme, as I do not have a diploma yet. So, I have 4 days free, can I be hired by someone? Or will there be any problems?

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

Your student visa restricts you to working a maximum of 16 hours p/week in the Netherlands. Haarlem University have published a document on the subject, this will take you straight to it.

I hope this helps.

@Cynic Hello, thank you for your reply! Just wanted to clarify that I am not a student in the Netherlands, but an active student in Sweden. I do not have any coursework but this internship. So maybe the focus should be more on the GVVA than the student status. Would I be able to be hired by someone in hospitality industry for instance? Or does GVVA restrict me to work for other employers?

Hi again.

Ah, OK, well in that case your Student status is largely irrelevant. Your future employer can only take you on for a role that nobody else in the Netherlands can do, by Hospitality, I assume you mean bar work and there are plenty of asylum seekers already there looking for that type of unskilled work. There is also a potential Dutch language requirement under MVV (I'm assuming you don't speak Dutch). My advice is to go to the Dutch Government (IND) website and go through the online process, that will tell you the requirements, and you'll then know first hand what you need to do; this will take you straight there.

I hope this helps.
