Air travel for dogs

RoyR5085

Hi Everyone,
We are flying out to Malta next Saturday with our two welsh collies (all documents etc in place and ready to go including cages) and never taken them on a flight before and wondering if anyone has any personal experience (good or bad) for taking yours out to Malta (Air Malta) and how well were they looked after?

we flew our cat and the process was very smooth, on arrival in Malta they get taken to a warehouse on the other side of the airport, the local vet/customs guy came promptly checked the paperwork and released her.

Make sure the paperwork is in order...

Hi there:)
We flew via Air Malta from Manchester as other low cost airlines do not take dogs. We have 2 welsh collies (sisters) and weight of them and the cages etc has to be taking into account.

Ours were 21Kgs each + cage weight (we bought two cages that collapse and erected in 30 seconds, with bedding and can be carried like a suitcase) and the cost in Manchester was just under £400 for the two and you have to book them in just 4 hours before the flight.

To get them on the flight you have to pre-book at least 30 days in advance and I can send you the details if and when you need them. Air Malta have been very polite and efficient to manage this process).

However, the cost to return them will be about EURO's 1,100 (for the two).

Ours were very well looked after in the hold and made sure they had water and comfortable.

I hope this helps and good luck!.
