Family Reunification (Starting process in Belgium)

Cristian Borja

Hello Everyone!

I arrived with my wife in Antwerp at the end of October 2023. We are starting the family reunification process directly in Belgium based on the exemption of a visa for a short stay ().

I have a student visa valid for a year and a contract as a PhD student. We asked for an appointment at the town hall using an online form as soon as I got my national register number (mandatory field in the form).

We are worried because the appointment was booked 6 days after the ending of my wife's "legal stay" (she doesn't need a visa for a period of a maximum of 90 days). We tried several times for an earlier appointment but apparently, there are so many requests at the town hall that it was impossible to move the date.

Does anyone know if there is a problem with this delay? In principle, in the form, we marked our entry date to Belgium and specified the procedure we wanted to start. Is not our fault that the appointment was booked beyond the 90 days.

Let me know if you have experienced some troubles like this.

(I also want to know about the contract registration on the MyMifin website. We submitted the contract with both, the landlord and my information. However, the status of the request is "Aanvullen" does that mean that is registered? or needs to be reviewed? I don't know how much time this can take. But I can already download proof of submission of the contract. Not sure if is the same as proof of registration.)

Thanks a lot!
