The Serenity Prayer

mugtech

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change

The courage to change the things I can

And the wisdom to know the difference

Good way to start every day here in the Philippines.  As a guest, a whole lot of accepting going on.

The Serenity Prayer had the original ideas expressed thousands of years ago, but it was put to words for YMCAs in the early 1930's.  In 1941 it was integrated into AA, Bill W saying he had never seen so much AA in so few words.  Many other 12 step programs have used the prayer.  No particular religion is required by the members, just need to recognize a power greater than themselves.

For people who want to recover but do not want to attend any church or  organized religion it is suggested that a higher power of their understanding could be AA.  It worked for me, as I did not need to know when the world was created, what happens when I die.  Did not have to take sides in the world history of religious warfare  Just had to get and stay sober and carry the message.  Has worked for 35 years, one day at a time.
