Just out for a walk with my bird???

James

http://c1.wag.com/images/products/p/cai/cai-065_1z.jpgIn the nearly twelve years I've lived in Brazil (in 5 different states now) I've seen on an almost daily basis people out for a stroll with their birds. I'm sure they can't all have been just returning home from a pet shop where they've purchased the bird, nor can they all be illegal wild birds either. So what's with this anyway?

Can any °µÍø½ûÇøs from other countries tell me if this is something that is a common practice in your home country? I have never seen it anywhere in Canada or in any of the US states where I've travelled.

Oh James, the next time you witness this please take a picture and a video. Afterwords lets submit it to Americas Funniest Home Videos. After we win, we can retire permanently on the grand prize. Because honestly I have never witnessed such an act and if I did I would need to be hospitalized.

You haven't, gosh Manaus was the first place I lived in Brazil and I used to see it there every day? I thought it was only a local custom until I got back to São Paulo and it was common to see there too, and in Belo Horizonte, and Porto Seguro. Here in Macaé if you don't have a bird cage in hand when you're out for a stroll, I'm sure either the Military Police or Guarda Municipal would stop you and ask exactly what the hell you were doing! Yes, it s popular in my home country. Old men usually sit out on a bench in a square talking to their old chaps, wi the birdcage under the arms. I havent seen many here in rj, though
