Leaving Brazil...

UhOhDetran

Well, it's finally come to this point. Nearly two years ago, I moved to Brazil and became a permanent resident. Got to say, it was very fun and I learned some Portuguese and had an overall nice time....

But my job has come to depend more on items (electronics) that are hard to obtain here without paying massive import fees and some aren't available at all. And Brazil in the end overall is just too frustrating.

Thus my wife and I decided to move to Canada. I wish Brazil didn't have such crazy import taxes, but it is what it is. So just saying thanks to everyone here in the forum for their help and reading this forum has been great.

It's a shame to hear that you and your wife are leaving Brazil. Indeed, the import taxes here can be a real challenge—especially for electronics and specialized items. It's great that you had a nice experience overall and learned some Portuguese along the way!

Just a quick reminder, since you became a tax resident here, it’s important to file the Communication and Declaration of Definitive Departure when you leave. This will help you avoid any future tax obligations with Brazil.

Best of luck with your move to Canada, and thank you for sharing your experience here!

Thanks a lot for that reminder! That's very helpful...it might have slipped my mind with all this stuff we're doing.

You're  making a huge mistake moving to Canada.  Where in Canada. Toronto n Vancouver are so expensive... shit on everything has gone through the roof. Taxes are about 45%of your wage. I have lved all most of my life in Edmonton Alberta  and I tell you moving to there now is a huge mistake. We're  all leaving there.

Canada is a very nice country - but it's true that everything is very expensive.

When I lived there, a detached house in the suburbs of Vancouver was around 300K - now it's over 1M if you are lucky.  It's true that taxes are high - it's very hard to save for a rainy day.

IMHO, if you are in the electronics industry, the US is more business friendly.

Good luck in your move.
