Tourist visa

Grongie

So I'm confused about my tourist visa.

I spend 60 days at the end of last year in Brazil. I came back in January, the officer at the border said that I only had 30 days left. According to the internet I can't ask for an extension because I'm from a schengen country.

But now I've noticed the stamp on my passport has 'prazo 90' on it.

prazo 90

Does this mean I can stay for three months?

01/30/23 Grongie, you need to count the days you were in Brazil during the 90 days immediately prior to your most recent arrival in January.  The days available to you on that arrival was 90 minus that number.  If the Immigration Officer told you that you only had 30 days available, I'm guessing that that's what the system will show when you leave Brazil.  I'm not sure what the stamp indicates; I would probably go the PF and ask, rather than risk 60 days of overstay fines.

here's the Foreign Ministry's QGRV -- General Visa Framework -- in English, showing the stay allowed for citizens of each country in the VIVIS column.  This is the authoritative text for who can stay and for how long in Brazil.

4 means 90 days with a 90 day, extension, 180 days total in each 365

4* means 90 days in each 180 days, so no extension, but return for another 90 days allowed in the same year, after being absent 90 days.

Other numbers and symbols refer to requirements for specific countries, and are defined at the top of the document.

When you look down the list for Netherlands, you'll see that it's listed as 4*.

I decided to hitch my tourist visa question to this string rather than create a new string.

Per an AP article I read "Brazil will reintroduce visa requirements Thursday for U.S., Canadian and Australian citizens. The United States Embassy in Brasilia said Monday that Americans will still be able to request visas electronically if they visit from April 10 onward."

The decision to have a visa for Brazil went back and forth at least three times since Lula's current term started.

My question is: I was issued a Brazilian tourist visa on 8 April 2024 which says it expires on 7 April 2034. After the back and forth, do you know if that visa is still valid, or do I need to request another tourist visa? Thanks
