New members of the Brazil forum, introduce yourselves here - 2023

sprealestatebroker

Hello Kevin here, new and planning on retiring to Sao Paulo in the coming months from the US. Main question is once I purchase 做厙輦⑹ health insurance here, how long before I can purchase a much cheaper one there? I'm reading and researching various answers. Is it once i get a certain ( i forget the letters) card from the police which sounded very quick? Any help or advice would be appreciated. Regards !!!
-@schuett17

And 做厙輦⑹ Health only if you have to. Plenty I heard have problems in actually making their policies to work here.

And the free SUS benefits only kick in once you have your legal RNE and proof of residency.

Definetively, the town you choose will make a difference in the quality of care.

@Kitty Faria 倏梭獺!

We were just in Salvador in January for feriados. Beautiful and a great vibe there. Will have to check out your youtube channel. We had talked about maybe looking into moving there. We are also in NE, in Joao Pessoa, PB.

Peter Itamaraca

Hi All - I am Peter from the UK, and I have been living on the island of Itamarac獺 in Pernambuco for 16 years, working in the field of property development and sales. You have probably not heard of it so look here!

joelkrock

Hello Folks!!!!

How is everyone doing today?

I just joined 做厙輦⑹, based on my residing in, or at a minimum, spending much of my time in Fortaleza, Brazil beginning this summer.

My girlfriend lives there and given that the visa process takes so long for the US, we may be in Brazil together for a while.

It would be great to make some new friends, and maybe even explore some work opportunities.

My background is in Contracts, Finance, Pricing and Operations for large and mid-sized US-based companies.

Look forward to hearing from you!

Anyone out there in Fortaleza???

Joel

abthree

05/25/23 Welcome, Joel! Enjoy Fortaleza -- it's a great city. Make sure that you understand how Brazilian visas work, because they're just as strict as the US is. Overstaying a tourist visa can really screw up your plans for some time. You'll find a lot of useful information on the threads in this forum.

soccerman4000

Hi everyone. I'm Devon. My Brazilian wife and I currently reside in the United States. Once we get things in order, we hope to move to her hometown of Manaus in the near future.

abthree

05/25/23 @soccerman4000. Welcome, Devon! I really like living in Manaus, I hope that you will, too.

soccerman4000

@abthree We're currently visiting Manaus at the moment. Going back home on Saturday. We have to register our marriage with the Brazilian Consulate and then figure out how I can apply for dual citizenship. Then after all that, hopefully move to Manaus.

Phil Mode

Hello, my name is Phil, but my mom calls me Felipe. I'm a Brazil-born, US-raised "做厙輦⑹" working in digital marketing and music, hoping to settle anywhere in the country by the beach. I am currently in Rio with my wife and our teenage son.

abthree

05/26/23 @Phil Mode. Welcome! Best of luck with your resettlement plans.

Peter Itamaraca

@Phil Mode With nearly 7500km of coastline in Brazil, you may have to narrow down your search for "beach front" a little...!

Phil Mode

@Peter Itamaraca Haha! I'm thinking Rio, Floripa, or Vitoria with a small chance of going northeast!

roddiesho

@joelkrock I live in Parazinho (next to Granj) which is 6 hours north of Fortaleza and 20 minutes from Jericoacoara.

@Phil Mode I live on the beach on the island of Itamarac獺 in Pernambuco, so if your search extends to this area, I would be happy to help...

Welcome, Antonio! ES is one of my own favorite states -- good choice!

You'll find lots of good input in many of our threads, and undoubtedly many answers to questions you have there:

Feel free to add a question to any thread, or to start a new thread if you don't see one that responds to your concerns. If you see a thread that hasn't had activity in a year or more, I'd recommend starting a new one anyway, even if the topic seems relevant.

Welcome, Marty! I moved here from Oak Park, IL. The interior of Pernambuco will be quite a change.

ChicagotoSaopaulo

@abthree That's awesome! Not too familiar with Oak Park, but when I did drive through I've always enjoyed its architecture.

Hi Marty - I am a Brit, but have been living on the island of Itamaraca in PE for 16 years - I am sure your wife will know it. Petrolina is a long way inland, but let me know if we can help with anything...

Inubia

Greetings, friends and acquaintances.....

I had to turn off the feed from 做厙輦⑹ for awhile because I am being snowed with reading (and writing) from alternative financial news sites , but Im still alive and kicking and miss you all.

We took a trip to Brasilia last month, to the US Embassy but also as tourists. It really is an astoundingly beautiful and modern city, quite a contrast from backwater Bahia. I posted a bunch of photos on Flickr if anyone is interested.

I'm noting, with a little snicker, that the Brazil Real is up to 4.87 on the US dollar today, with every expectation to continue the trend.

And I have a request, I am looking for a financial advisor/broker that I can trust, preferably in Bahia but I'm getting a little desperate at this point. My interests are CD's, govt bonds, Vale, Petrobras, and other stocks, and around here you would think I was speaking a foreign language.......

I go by Inubia occasionally, BomJesusdaLapa sometimes, and I use proton mail for my correspondence, and if anybody spams me I will send $10 in your name to this Nigerian prince that is an old friend of mine......

Peter Itamaraca

@Inubia Interesting thoughts about the dollar, but consider this study I did last week:

US Dollar x Brazilian Real

Last month 5.12

Today 4.92

5 years ago 3.71

10 years ago 2.15

12 years ago 1.57

These are the rates for June over the past 12 years or so, and show that today $1000 buys R$4920, but in 2011 it only bought R$1570 - 68% less. Or, to put it another way, you can get over 3 times the value today than you could 12 years ago. In January this year it was over 5.3, but has fallen ever since.

Historical exchange rates, like those above, reflect the norm in Brazil for high interest rates, which are starting to rise again here.

I do not think the dollar will drop to 1.60 or below any time soon, but I do think it is artificially high at the moment - and I am not convinced that it will stop dropping over the next few years...

ClaudiaMonica

@Julien hello everyone!!

My name is Claudia, I am originally from Argentina, but I went to the States when I was five years old.

I am now living in the countryside, close to Pipa. I used to work as a social worker in New Mexico, but now I live in Brazil and have to do other things...i love to paint. I would love to meet other ex-pats, of other countries.

abthree

06/26/23 Welcome, Claudia. Enjoy RN.

ouaouaron

Hi all, I am moving to Garopaba, SC in September. I currently live in Vancouver with my partner and we will split our time between both cities.

I just applied for the VITEM XI visa and am looking for tips and advice from some of the members here to get PR / citizenship eventually and to settle in to Brazil (banking, healthcare, etc.). I'm a Canadian / US lawyer and work in tech law.

Cheers!

abthree

07/03/23 @ouaouaron. Welcome! Prior to covid, the Brazilian Consulate General in Vancouver had a reputation for providing good information. Consular services took quite a hit during the pandemic, but they've been coming back on line, and any advice you get from the Vancouver Consulate you can probably take to the bank, so be sure to reach out to them.

We have several threads on VITEM XI and Naturalization that we try to keep up to date on the regulations and members' experiences, so you should find a lot there, especially if you check the ones with recent entries. And if not, just ask.

Nice to meet everyone! My name is Alan...I am British1f1ec-1f1e7.svg and my home is UK London currently :).

I started travelling across South America Feb '22 and shortly after my adventure began I met my current Brazilian girlfriend (who is now pregnant with our little girl)!

I have not been back home to the UK since Feb '22 and loving all the diversity in different places in Brazil and S America, that I have been to so far.

We plan to have our baby in Brazil and like many others, we are trying to wrap our heads around the Police Federal process for me staying in Brazil. I have been reading a lot online to work out the process and gotchas and this website has got to be some of the best and most useful information, I have come across.

So many thanks to all creators, moderators / admins and contributors!

Bhavna

Hello and welcome on board Alan ^^
