Bringing a car to Turkey

Londoner18

I am planning to bring my car from UK to Turkey. Is there anyone who has done the same thing? Any information about the tax and procedures? How does it work for a british who will reside in Turkey and how does it work for a Turkish person who goes back to Turkey?

If anyone can give info about this that will be really appreciated.

Many Thanks

Some say you can't bring your car more than 3 years old. If it's age is less than 3 years you have to pay lots of taxes like OTV, KDV etc. Other people say if you wanna enter Turkey with your car, government gives you 3 months allowance. But you have to go out of the borders and again enter every 3 months.

So, it is better for you to get the exact information from the Turkish embassy in UK.

If you drive your UK PLATED car into Turkey how long are you allowed to have it in Turkey?. THE ANSWER IS 6 MONTHS.

I am sure the 180 days rule still applies.. You can keep your car in Turkey for 180 days. Then it must leave Turkey for 6 months
Note..please do not go over the 180 days rule you will be fined a small fortune per day and still loose the car.

The car must leave Turkey for 6 months or be handed in at customs,It did when I lived there.they wanted a fortune to put my car on Turkish plates.Even if you are a Turk the same rule applies.

Some say you can have your your UK PLATED car put on Turkish plates...Maybe if you work for the consulate,Please try it will cost you a very large guarantee and a fortune in legal fees.

SOLUTION 1.
You can keep a second car in Bulgaria and take it back to Turkey for 6 months every year, the cost of keeping two cars is a bit expensive.Note you may also need a Turkish residency permit.

SOLUTION 2.
Drive back to the UK to sell it. ouch that is expensive.

SOLUTION 3.
Drive over the Border into Bulgaria and sell or scrap the vehicle legally. providing you have all relevant documents this is probably the cheapest and easiest way..

How to get rid of your British plated car from Turkey is easy.. rather than pay the Turkish Goverment a small fortune. if you wish I can give you details of a good company in Bulgaria,. who will buy your British plated car/vehicle..If you are interested in SOLUTION 3  please pm for details .
