Are you referring to CNIC / NICOP?

You can do it online by choosing the modify option.   Ideally only one has to do it but sometimes both need to do it. 

Here is the extract from NADRA website i.e. pak-identity for process.

Modify Marital Status

Married Male:

For change in marital status of male applicant,for processing of NICOP,Nikah Nama OR affidavit is required.

Married Female:

For change in marital status of female applicant the following documents are required

Nikah Nama OR affidavit duly countersigned by the husband

AND

Husband's CNIC/NICOP/MNIC OR confirmation through email by the husband alongwith copy of CNIC/NICOP/MNIC.

(For female applicants of more than 45 years of age, Nikah nama is not required)

Divorced Male/Female:-

Only Divorce paper/Certificate issued, is required

Deceased husband:-

Death certificate of husband is required.

If the spouse record(husband's/wife's record) already exists in the database, no documents are required

Well I used my Bahrain credit card and it worked fine.  The problem may be with your friend's credit card i.e. his bank may not allow online transactions.

Don't know about e-sahulat as I have never used it.

I  am facing the same problem. I want to change my marital status online.
