escapers8

Where is a site that will explain visa options for a retired couple from USA to move to Spain, most likely permanently? Thanks.

Spain's a great country to relocate to, especially for retirement.

There are many visa options, but one of the most popular (and easiest to get) is the No Lucrativa Visa (NLV). This is a non-working visa ideal for retirees and anyone with savings and/or passive income (rental, dividends, pension, etc.). You need approximately 30k euros (in savings or annual income) to qualify.

You apply at a Spanish embassy in USA. I think it's mostly outsourced to BLS now. This is the Washington DC page, but you should find the appropriate embassy/BLS page based on your location.

These visas are, officially, for temporary residence. But it's usually straightforward to renew, and after 5 years living there you should qualify for permanent residence. A PR is more secure and hard to revoke. Once you have it, you could stay there for the rest of your life.

One of the requirements for a residence visa is health insurance. To start you'll need a private healthcare policy. However, there's usually a way to get yourself enrolled in the public system within a year or two. Public healthcare in Spain is highly regarded, and is far, far cheaper than USA medical, Even better, public coverage has no exclusions, no deductibles, and no age limits - unlike many private policies.

Good luck!
