Moving to Romania - applying for long-stay visa

Hello,

My parents are Romanian, I was born in Canada but have spent a lot of time in Romania. I have dual citizenship, Canadian and Romanian, and hold a Romanian passport (renewed 2022). Last year I went with my fianc茅 , now husband ( Canadian citizenship) and he fell in love with Romania. We are planning on moving there, but i am getting mixed info on what needs to happen for this to be possible. Since i am a romanian citizen, does he apply for the family reunification visa? Or does that not apply to our situation because i do not live in romania? If the family reunification visa聽 is the correct one, is he allowed to work in romania or remotely for a company outside of romanian on this visa? Or would he have to apply for a work visa to do this? Is anyone able to help point me in the right direction or have info on this?

Yes, he must apply for a family reunification visa to live with you in Romania.聽 You may need to establish residence there yourself first though.

Once he has the visa and enters Romania on it, he'll then start the process to obtain the Permis de Sedere Temporara which will allow him to reside in Romania with you.聽 That also will serve as his work authorization.聽 A work visa is not applicable.

You haven't mentioned if you have had your marriage transcribed in Romania.聽 That would be the first step.

Thank you for your reply, it is all very helpful information.聽 We just recently got married, so still waiting for our marriage certificate to come in the mail, once it does I will be getting it transcribed in Romanian.

Do you happen to know more about how to establish residency in Romania? Would I need to go to Ro first, and rent an apartment and show that as my proof of address before he submits his application?聽 Or is it enough for my parents to claim I am living at their address and I have a temporary buletin issued? When we go, we are planning on staying at their house for some time, so that would be the address we will be living at. Sorry for all the questions, I am having a hard time finding all the necessary info for this specific situation. I greatly appreciate the guidance and help.

Either situation you mentioned should be fine. You can rent a place, or your parents can "host" you both, provided they have enough space that's required by law for the number of people living there.聽 If you decide to rent an apartment, just make sure the rental contract is registered with ANAF.聽 If you go with your parents, then they'll have to make a declaration at the notary.
