Hi toon,

the length of the residence permit depends on the work contract. If the work contract is for 1 year the residency will be given for one year.

But it has to applied for like we all have to.It is not automatic and depends on health insurance proof and so on.

thanks ricky thats what I thought......and are they subject to the same processing delays as the rest

ricky

Presumably , but as TCN's have to appear in person they can request the receipt on the spot as they usually need the confirmation for visa purposes.

work permits are applied for separately - usually 1 year long, and a residency permit separately - usually 1 year long. i only know of 1 year residency permits and 5 year residency permits apart from the touristy ones.

and what do you mean by "thanks ricky thats what I thought......and are they subject to the same processing delays as the rest"?

TCN are usually subject to much longer processing delays

Employment license ('work permit') is one of the possible basis for residence permit application. Residence permit cannot be issued for the period longer then max of passport expiry period and basis document (employment license, for example) period.

For some reasons (I don't understand them) employment license is issued for 1 year max. Even if you have indefinite employment contract.

Hi Oisin,

the original question was :

Does a TCN work permit give an automatic one year residency permit. -or does it need to be applied for seperately

Could you please give an answer or stay quiet! I don't think toon wants to petition the EU on the issue. He just wants the answer. And it was not about 'long-term' residency.

Do you have some kind of automated answering machine acting up on 'residency'?

Cheers

Brief answer is "No, it need to be applied for separately". Full answer should include the idea that working permit and residence permit are 2 separate documents and latter one is not always based on former one.
