Hello, I'm buying a house in Milan with my partner who鈥檚 an English citizen with residenza in Italy. At the moment both the bank and the notary ask us for the certificato libero which, however, both the embassy and the consulate have confirmed non existing for the United Kingdom. they are also refusing us self-declaration. Does anyone have similar experiences and know how to proceed? Thank you

In case you have not yet contracted marriage, you can apply to the registry office for a certificate of free status.

This document is used to certify the free status of a person, showing the absence of the bond of marriage, indicating whether single, widowed or divorced; it is issued by the registry office of one's municipality of residence. Since Nov聽 2021 it is possible to get this online using an electronic ID such as your plastic carta identica or SPID
