Obtaining a Tax ID for the first time

Staceyg07

Hello,

Does anyone have advice on how to obtain a tax ID in italy as a current US citizen?  Is it possible to do during a visit? Are appointments required?  We are looking to do this in Asti.  We will be there in 2 weeks.

Grazie!

The rules have changed.  If you dont have a permesso di soggiorno or visa, you will need an accepted proposta di acquisto for a property purchase otherwise the Agenzia delle Entrate say that can't issue you a Codice Fiscale.  You can always apply via the consulate in your home country without that requirement.

If you want to try anyway, yes you will need an appointment - if you go here:

you can book an appointment at the relevant office.

You will need your passport, plus photocopy of same and a completed AA8 form (plus permesso/visa/etc all with a photocopy)

@Staceyg07 Go online to the Agenzie Entrata website and make an appointment at an office close to your location.

Posting an update:  codice fiscale has been secured.

I pulled down the form from the website above,  filled out and printed. Was able to make an in person appointment online.  Showed up at the local office in Alba with the form and our passports and walked out with the stamped approved tax ID.  Very easy process!
