Will my depression and anxiety diagnosis from Canada help me get meds?

Imuseles

I have depression and anxiety and I’m on meds for both of them. Will my anxiety and depression diagnosis from Canada count to buy meds in Germany? Or will I need to get re diagnosed again in Germany to get meds? Also do they give mental health meds to anyone without diagnosis in Germany?

Such medication is, of course, by prescription only - by a German doctor. But the (compulsory) German health insurance pays for both doctor and medicine, if medically needed.

I tried posting earlier, but it disappeared, so I will try again. Just a heads up....it took 7 months to get into a psychiatrist in Germany, and another 3 months to get tested to get a prescription for meds from a German doctor. It can take awhile. I believe that you may need a prescription from a German doctor to get meds in Germany. When my daughter finally was able to see the psychiatrist and was able to get a prescription for meds, it was paid for by the public insurance system, which was a pleasant surprise.

My daughter tried to get meds in the USA, during summer break, but the psychiatrist wouldn't give her a prescription when he found out that she was permanently living in Germany. He said that he wasn't legally allowed to give her a prescription, even though she is American. So, be aware of this. I wouldn't want you to fall through the cracks and not get meds for 12 months.
