Car insurance

Ozzy183a

Hi all,

Am in the process of renewing my car insurance and have been told by a local broker that there is only one insurer that will insure cars that are registered in Bulgaria but are down as being owned by a Uk national.

Has anyone else had any dealings with such and or can they direct me to perhaps other providers as am surprised there is only one provider in the country.

Thanks

Ozzy

I doubt there's only one provider. However, I just renewed mine, and I discovered that they differentiate (i.e. charge more!) between Bulgarian and foreign owners, and LHD and RHD. And it was a bit trickier to find a company that only charged a little more, as opposed to a LOT more. The other expensive issue is how many days you drive your car outside Bulgaria.

My premium (3rd party, legal minimum) was 260 leva (for a year). But the initial quote was 250... which went up to 450 ish when the foreigner/RHD got entered. I think Bulgarian/LHD might be 180 or so.

I was a bit miffed at how expensive it is... but then my brother said he'd just renewed his UK insurance, and it was a thousand quid! :-)

I've used 24ins (dot bg) which is an online insurance broker a few times. But now they have an online calculator for car insurance, so you can see exactly what options are available, and how it's affected by the above choices.

(But the short answer is the DZI is the cheap one.)

Hi, thanks for the info, i got quoted 277 lev which if i was a Bulgarian national would have dropped to 167 lev quite a difference. But as you say still cheaper than the Uk.
