Travel from the uk by car

allenredfearn7

Hi everyone, I'm driving out for the first time in July, to get our renovation project underway.

Having spent time ripping out last year we start the renewing this year.

The route from the uk shows the quickest way across and throughSerbia. are there any countries/regions to be wary of? There will be 3 of us, so only going to be short stops as we share the driving.  But I will be travelling back alone after 6 weeks.

Thank you,  Allen

There are checks in quite a few countries, even more so now due to the outbreak of Foot and Mouth.

Germany Joins France, Netherlands, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Bulgaria, Poland, and Czech Republic With New Schengen Border Controls: Here’s What Travellers Need to Know

April 23, 2025

In 2025, Germany, France, Netherlands, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Bulgaria, Poland, and the Czech Republic have all reintroduced internal border controls within the Schengen Area, significantly impacting travel and tourism across Europe. This move, triggered by migration concerns, national security threats, and major public events, is reshaping how travelers experience cross-border movement within the region. While Schengen has long been known for its open borders, this shift requires more preparation, potentially causing delays and extra checks, particularly for those on multi-country trips. Though permitted under Schengen Borders Code Articles 25 and 29, these changes have introduced delays, documentation checks, and more uncertainty for travelers.

For tourists, frequent business travelers, digital nomads, and even locals commuting across borders daily, these new protocols require additional planning and patience. The reimplementation of border controls does not revoke Schengen travel privileges, but it alters how travelers engage with the system. For many, this marks a new phase in European mobility, one that blurs the long-standing promise of open borders.

Oh just to add Austria has closed all it's borders with Hungary and Slovakia and only a couple of the main ones are open but heavily policed monitoring animals due to Foot and Mouth. (So far there have been no cases detected in Austria.)

Sounds like our journey over is going to get longer and more complicated, especially with a dog. Going to have to study the best routes I guess.
