I have an issue trusting here, I would be present.

Do you have residency? If you have recently gotten residency, you can claim an exemption from import taxes on household items. That has to be done directly with Aduanas.

@ddmcghee

I believe the exemption is for returning Dominicans

You or an agent needs to be present to pay when the value of the import taxes has been determined.

New residents get it as well! My husband and I brought in a 40' container, and only paid partial import taxes on the vehicle. We got full exoneration on the household items.

Always make sure you read and understand the fine print and exclusions, ie; door to door included with your exact address., etc here in the DR

New legal residency up to 6 months is also exempt on household items

There is a slightly different program for returning Dominicans and their families.

That is interesting, the DR Consulate didn't tell my wife about that.  She had to go to Santo Domingo to have her citizenship verified as the tax relief would not apply if she had more than 180 days in DR.

Why is always good to seek legal advice. As we know policies here change day by day and sometimes never consistent. My opion
