Best towns to live in near Cebu

GuestPoster5479

Hi all, looking to buy a small house or condo on Cebu Island (not in the city). Could anybody recommend some nice places, preferably not more than 2 hours from Cebu proper.

I'm married to a Philipina so please no relationship advice:)

Hoping for:

1. Quiet, must be laid back, can't stand loud trikes, tourists or busy streets. ( I can only pray for no roosters etc)

2. A sandy beach, doesn't have to be paradise, but I hate rocks.

3. Prefer to live on or near the sea, not inland.

4. I also Wing Foil, so wind is a plus, but can't find much online about spots in Cebu.

5. Ideally, the town would be big enough to grab coffee, shop open markets, meet locals and watch events.

On a side note: I would consider other islands, however I chose Cebu because living next to an airport is important. Also, being close to hospitals and supplies are important.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Welcome to the forum and hope some locals can answer your questions as I have never visited Visayas, Palawan was the closest I ever got.

Is your wife from the Cebu area? (family etc.) Have you spent plenty of time looking around Visayas? Services available?

Your asks like mine are difficult but achievable, 14 years knocking around PH was mostly Luzon and it took many years of searching and frustration to eventually find our bit of paradise and personally found boots on the ground worked the best.

Good luck and hope you find what you search for.

Cheers, Steve.

Please let us know if you find a quiet place big enough to have a market.  From what I have seen and heard you will.be  dealing with roosters, dogs, cats, kids and karaoke.  Good luck.

Yes mugtech, welcome to the Philippines, truer words never spoken but here always an issue and facts are facts.

The OP's wants are doable but it will take time to find the small sanctuary with close services/facilities. We found it but took many years slogging but well worth the effort especially for a retirement situation.

Decent x 8 Sari stores 500 to 2,000 meters, 4 kilometers to a decent town, wet/dry market, supermarket, fast foods, mechanics, hardware stores, paint shops, mum and dad cafeterias, night markets etc. etc.

30 minutes to a great private hospital, 40 minutes to 3 malls and the new SM mall opening later this year.

Absolute beachfront on a perfect sandy cove, few people on the beach even in Holy week and apart from the waves breaking you can hear a pin drop, great neighbours all with large lots, no carolers or vendors annoying us, Surf is up every few weeks and we get the locals out honing their skills, as said research and boots on the ground,,,,,,, trouble here is now it's expensive, prices have tripled or more in the last 8/9 years. Our bonus.

Hope the OP does the research and spends time on the ground looking and learning.

Cheers, Steve.

Are you referring to Bacnotan?

Hi, I totally agree, I will be boots on the ground for a few months. Her fam is from Manila. I consider myself a veteran traveler and have lived in Europe. I just thought getting some random advice from °µÍø½ûÇøs might be fun to research ;)

Yes that area, there are some great quiet spots from Bororo all the way to Luna, one just needs to search the same as all areas.

As said don't know the Visayas but I'm sure there is plenty of paradise and quiet.

Good luck with your search.

Cheers, Steve.

Sorry I just read your next post re her family from Manila.

Have you asked your wife where she wants to live? Closer to family or far away, after all her thoughts and wishes need to be considered.

Cheers, Steve.

If you are looking for Cebu, beachfront with sand, they are all taken.  There are some beautiful overlooking spots in Argao, Alcoy, and Dalegete.  Many beautiful spots on Negris and Panay but again, it is a tall order to find beachfront with sand at a reasonable price.

From South of Dumaguete around to Balawan there are many beautiful spots, Bacong, Dauin, Zambogita,  siaton,  and on .

Good luck.
