Siquijor is a lovely, peaceful tourist island, Dumaguete is a small city with universities, a range of industry and various services. It all depends on what you're looking for.

Sounds like (based on your brief criteria) that Siquijor could meet your needs, at least for awhile. But 7 days is not nearly enough time to assess a place for retirement, in my opinion.

Then again, maybe that's part of my problem, haha :)

No pnw, takes plenty of time to know an area, one week is for Gilligan's Island.

After 1 year in Manila I knew it wasn't for me/Ben the same. Time and patience wins the race or there could be regrets.

Just walked past a restaurant in Baguio called Gilligan's Island, took me about 30 seconds to decide it was not for me.

First off.... 1 week isn't enough... My gal and I took a ferry over to Siquijor for 10 days a couple months ago, and while it does check your boxes, it is very small, and I feel like it would get old really fast... just my opinion... I an sure it would work for some... for me, it's definitely a once a year vacation for 10 or so days olace... where Dumaguete would be more suited to live... especially if your in need of any medical oversight... Siquijor had basically none...

I would suggest also to broaden your search to include at least a half dozen other areas before "settling down". Across the water in Dipolog/Dapitan area is nice as well... of course I am biased... lol... Either way... enjoy!

@Wellsfry thanks I will be back for 90 days if I find it to be satisfactory, however where a good place to stay in when the wet season comes?

Wellsfry

Indoors? Lol... I don't think there is any place better than any other for the different seasons... the only thing you can control is median temperature where you live... Like Baguio, and Tagaytay would be a bit cooler all the time then other places... etc... but each season is a little different wherever you go in the world... For us in Dapitan. We have 6 months of wind from the North East. Then 6 months from the North West... Definitely different... and in the rainy season we get a shower nearly daily .. but it is kinda like Hawaii... where it comes through and rains for an hour or two... then gone each day... and usually some rain at night... and in the dry season we still get rain at night, but hit of miss in the daytime.. I have found that every island in Philippines is a little different in regards to climate... Just my opinion...
