appelanchelle

HI All! I received my Approval in Principle .....I need some advice from residence/ retirement permit holders. I need to purchase my return flight ticket so I am not sure if I should choose  6 months or one year (return ticket) Not planning to return to my country but only for visits  (don't want to get into trouble with EDB when upload flight tickets) Same question for  travel insurance how long must the cover be?. Your assistance and advise will be appreciated!

Tell immigration youre there to get your RRP. Shouldn't be a problem.

From my experience, you need your return flight to be within 90 days. Since you don't actually have your permit, you will enter on a tourist visa with a maximum 90 day stay.

Hello.

As above, you can make a return ticket for 3 months. That will satisfy immigration, and give you the option of a quick visit if needed. On the other hand you could get the cheap option, whatever that might be. Next time you wish to make a visit to your home country you could purchase the ticket from Mauritius.

Do remember to take all your original documents when you come, and make sure you can transfer money from your bank into a Mauritian bank.

Good luck for the future.

Best wishes.

Rfzilli is correct but during your 90 day stay you can easily extend your visa by a further 90 days if required ( 1st floor Sterling House in Port Louis ) .

@Tookays thank you so much for your information. How long does it take to get an appointment? I have all of my documents just need to do medical test ( will schedule an appointment before I arrive (planning to fly out May 3) and open a bank account ( understand I can apply online with ABSA) my police clearance certificate expires May 20 do you think I will get appointment before May 20 or should I just apply again for the police clearance certificate ( just in a bit of a panic that my appointment might be after May 20)

Tookays

@appelanchelle

Hello, I cannot give you a time-frame. There will be others who have been through the process. If your police certificate runs out on 20th May, I would suggest you get a new one ASAP before you travel to Mauritius. Also please confirm that you can open a Mauritian bank account online from abroad -- the regulations are pretty tight.

Best wishes.

@Tookays

Thank you I will apply again and found an agency that can do  the process fast

We could only open a bank account once we had the actual Retirement Permit. We also used a Relocation company who were excellent

@rozannejsmith

Thank you so much... quick question did you open the bank account after your interview? According to information I received I need to open one before the interview . please advise what was your process

rozannejsmith

I tried to open a bank account after the final interview and was told that I needed the actual Retirement Permit certificate. Make sure when you apply to open a bank account you have all your docs ie permit, proof of funds passport, proof of address ie utility bill from the landlord. Good luck

@appelanchelle

You have to open your bank account and transfer USD1,500 I think from your foreign account   them take a letter of confirmation to the EDB before you can get your permit

I am not in the country yet only flying out early May... still need to find long term accommodation for proof of address to open bank account. Can use temporary accommodation address (bnb) to open bank account?

Ramelak

@appelanchelle

If I remember right, it's not important.

The important things are to get a reference letter from your bank abroad,  and transfer funds from that account to your Mauritius account once the bank opens it. And you have to be at the Mauritius bank in person to open.

Pls DM me if you want contact details of the bank I use, then you can deal with them directly

@Ramelak

Hi appelanchelle

I just found your post now. As far as return ticket , they might not ask for one, but depends on the officer. So if you still want to buy one you can buy it on bestonwardtickets,  just google it, a day before flight to Mauritius. Cost $12 USD. All valid, using it all the time.

In my case arrived October 1, rental agreement October 10, had residence permit done on October 31. Make sure all your docs are uploaded and correct. Bank statement from your local bank with stamp and signature confirming it is your money minimum $18 000 showing. As I read you don't have to have a bank account here. If you still want to have a  bank account in Mauritius, open it after you get permit. ABSA online is easy, you have to come to the bank show them your passport or permit. But make sure you have a rental agreement for your address proof and Telecom account as for your utility bill, done in one day with your rental agreement. Hope it helps.
